Solidarity announces the inclusion of female social pioneers in social insurance

Mrs. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, announced the inclusion of 3,000 rural women leaders in the social insurance system, starting from January 2022, at a cost of 4.5 million pounds annually, for the first time in the history of the insurance system, as they are among the categories of irregular workers required by Social Insurance Law No. 148 of the year 2019 with insurance, and the Ministry of Social Solidarity is in the process of establishing and registering a central association for women social entrepreneurs to be responsible for paying their insurances and taking care of their interests, with the Ministry supervising the provision of an integrated package of social protection through coordination with the relevant authorities. The Minister of Social Solidarity said that coordination had been made with the National Social Insurance Authority to include women social pioneers in insurance protection, in implementation of presidential mandates to extend social protection to all categories of irregular workers. Al-Qabbaj confirmed that the decision allows insurance for social pioneers as of January 1, 2022, at a rate of 9% of the minimum insurance wage, which amounts to 1,400 pounds per month. Thus, each pioneer will pay 126 pounds per month as the value of the insurance subscription, provided that the Ministry of Social Solidarity transfers the contributions to an authority. In return, the state will contribute 168 pounds per month to each social worker, which is the employer’s share, bringing the total monthly contribution to 294 Egyptian pounds for each social worker. Al-Qabbaj pointed out that there are many sectors of irregular employment that have already entered the social insurance system in the recent period, such as members of the acting, musical, and plastic arts unions, in addition to categories of fishermen and workers in the field of waste recycling, in addition to workers in the construction sector, stressing the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s efforts to include all categories.
